Following immediately after Judas leaves the Last Supper to betray him, Jesus talks about love.
This love demonstrates two characteristics of Jesus:
- Extraordinary Grace – that he can talk in this way so shortly after being betrayed.
- Extraordinary Care – as he is showing his concern over everything that the disciples are about to go through.
Jesus introduces love as the overriding principle of the new covenant and then demonstrates that with his own sacrificial love.
This love is not just for our own good but also so that those around will see something of God.
