St. Luke’s owns and operates a Church Hall in Exeter street which was originally built as a Sunday School. As well as a reasonable sized hall there is also a kitchen and a separate classroom which are all kitted out with tables and chairs. The hall is used extensively by the local community and for organisations such as Brownies and Boy’s Brigade.
We are currently in the process of selling the hall and the PCC has selected a buyer who wants the hall to remain in community use and who has the resources to make this happen. As further insurance towards this aim and in response to hearing the views of the community, the PCC has decided to place a restrictive covenant on the hall which will ensure it remains in community use in perpetuity.
We are also seeking to broker a partnership between the preferred buyer and the TheHallGetInvolved group which has formed in Prestonville so that there can be an exchange of ideas about the use of the hall and a potential partnership for its development. We believe that a covenant and partnership arrangement will be an excellent outcome for the community and mutually beneficial to all parties and will achieve all the objectives of ensuring continued community use for generations to come.
At present (early February 2012) all parties have agreed to meet and we are currently discussing dates and times for this. All three parties in this discussion wish for the hall to remain in community use and our hope is that we will all be able to work together to achieve this.
In the meantime the hall is still available for hire as a playschool, workshop space, dance hall, for craft activities or for private parties.
