Pentecost

Pentecost is often described as the birth of the church as it was the moment the disciples became fired up about the message of love that Jesus had passed on them and when they were given the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to tell everyone.  Very rapidly over the coming months and years the good news of Jesus spread throughout the Roman empire and beyond as the apostles, later joined by Paul, travelled the known world setting up churches.

St. Luke’s is embarking on an exploration of what it means to be a church of the Spirit in the 21st century and this talk by Revd. Martin Poole laid out some principles for this.  In particular we noted that every time the Holy Spirit is very evident in the Acts of the Apostles is preceded by someone spending time praying and listening to God.

As a church we want to commit to do this in a number of different ways.
Monthly Prayer meeting – First Wednesday of every month at 8pm in church
Prayer Space – Each Sunday evening at 6.30pm except the fourth Sunday of the month
Digital Prayer – we will be exploring ways to use digital technology (Twitter, Facebook, SMS) as a prayer aid
